The Non-Governmental Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) is an umbrella organisation coordinating and strengthening member Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) addressing gender and development through capacity building, networking, communication and advocacy.
The organisation was established by a few Zambian women NGOs in 1985 after the United Nations Conference on Women in Nairobi, Kenya. The main beneficiaries of NGOCC’s activities are women and girls countrywide and 104 member organisations. NGOCC’s mandate is to coordinate and mobilize members for advocacy and capacity building programmes aimed at advancing the status of women in Zambia.
This is done through lobbying and advocating for gender sensitive and responsive policies and legislation. They envision “a society where women fully participate and benefit from social, cultural, economic and political development”. Their mission is “to champion women’s empowerment and gender equality and equity through coordinated institutional and capacity development to members, advocacy and linkages with local and international partners.”
For over 30 years, NGOCC has been championing for gender equity and equality by advocating for improvement in legislation, policies and programmes that are gender sensitive and responsive.
