Within the framework of the “Decentralizing Government and Centralizing Gender in Jordanian Municipalities” project implemented by the Higher Population Council (HPC) in cooperation with Hivos and funding from the Dutch MFA, the final consultation meeting was held with members of the municipal and local councils of Mahes on 29 July 2020.

HPC shared the results of the study conducted at Mahes, which showed that the cultural heritage has strongly impacted the role given to female members of municipal and local councils during the COVID-19 response, limiting them to specific roles – mostly not field-related – despite the fact that they have the capacity and education needed, and are supported by their local communities.
